ملخص: BACKGROUND: Most of the schools and universities are adopting Englishmedium of instruction(EMI) as it has become the necessity of today. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of Englishmedium of instruction in the classroom learning for the Arabic speaking students. METHODS: To obtain data, a qualitative and quantitative survey was conducted on90 female undergraduate students from 3 departments who were asked to fill aquestionnaire and were interviewed. Besides, 3 teachers from each department werebeing questioned too. RESULT: The result varied according to the subjects the students were taught. Themajority of the students preferred their courses to be taught in bilingual method usingboth English and Arabic language, while several of them were more inclined to haveonly English as their medium of instruction. The study revealed that the students whohave English as their major can learn and express themselves better than thosestudying computer science and medicine who are more reluctant to communicate inEnglish, though, the majority agreed that EMI helped them improve theirEnglish language proficiency.
