ملخص: This applied research work focuses on significance of satellite images and Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for estimating the superficial water runoff and extracting the main relative hydrological parameters for Al Roma watershed in Al Quasseem province, Kingdom Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, drainage analysis, topographic parameters and land use/land cover patterns have been evaluated and interpreted for the watershed management. Hydrological modeling has been carried out using ArcGIS10.2.2 software in order to simulate and delineate the watershed and the main morphometric parameters based on SRTM DEM. The hydrological simulation produced by hydrology module in the same GIS software gave us the stream order of the watershed which ranges from first to fifth showing a dendritic type of drainage network within the same watershed. In addition, the drainage density in this watershed has been estimated to be medium which denotes that the area within the watershed contains sedimentary rocks and soils having a high permeability and low relief. As morphometric parameters, the bifurcation ratio varies from 3 to 5 and the elongation ration reaches 1 which appears that the basin belongs to elongated shaped basin category. However, the mean bifurcation ratio of the entire basin reaches 4.7 which makes it possible to say that the drainage pattern is not much influenced by the geological structures. In this sense, land use and land cover mapping of the watershed was carried out from latest available multispectral satellite image and whole watershed covers under agricultural land, built up areas, fallow land, sand dunes and water body. In this purpose, Erdas Imagine software will be applied in order to classify the study area using more than classification algorithms. Moreover, The results of this classification can be compared with those obtained by GIS software for the period (2000, 2010 and 2015). Hence, proper management of the watershed is required or else these resources will soon be lost and no longer be able to play their role in socioeconomic development of this province.
